Peruvian underground warriors Morvidhen have been waving the flag of NWOBHM-tinged Speed Metal for nearly a decade, and their self-titled full-length debut suggests that's not changing anytime soon. Nothing new or fancy here, just 10 tracks worth of shamelessly worshiping past greats like early Maiden and Agent Steel and acting like nothing past 1985 matters. Most of the music puts the pedal firmly on the metal, but there are some bits of variety to be found, like with the galloping riffs of "Claws of Hades" and the party rocker "Soul of Steel", and all of it will take you back to the days of long-haired boys and girls grabbing some beers and going to gigs in shitty basements. The vocals are a bit of a weak spot, as singer/bassist Ratt gets the job done but doesn't really stand out from your average vocalist, but that's hardly a deal breaker with this kind of thing. Overall, the odds are good that you've heard this exact kind of album before, but when it comes to glorifying the Golden Age of Metal and doing it well, what's wrong with one more listen? Recommended.
